Election Reform
Get Money out of Politics
Overturn Citizens United
The amount of dark money spent in our elections has exploded since this disastrous Supreme Court ruling. Money does NOT equal protected free speech and corporations are NOT people. Allowing billionaires to hide behind innocent sounding foundations and organizations that directly attack or promote candidates is not in the best interests of democracy or our country. There are multiple legislative proposals by Democrats, including the We the People Amendment, the Disclose Act and most recently H.J. Res. 122, reintroduced in March 2026 to propose a constitutional amendment to overturn the decision. I fully support these efforts to reclaim our elections from rich and powerful interests.
No Private Money Donations to Campaigns
Candidates should not be allowed to solicit private donations. Instead of talking with constituents, massive amounts of time and effort are put into contacting and cultivating donors. Incumbents often gain financial advantage by stockpiling millions to protect their seat. Additionally, candidates themselves can donate as much as they want to their own campaign, giving millionaires and billionaires an incredible advantage. Publicly funded federal election financing is the solution. Qualifying candidates would all get the same amount, ensuring they have to run on the strength of their ideas and the quality of their character – not the size of their campaign’s bank account.
End Gerrymandering
The idea of political parties and elected officials designing their districts is simply ridiculous and leads to the election of extremists and a polarized Congress. Federally-mandated independent commissions – free from party or candidate influence – would ensure balanced districts that are not politically motivated. I support efforts such as the Fair Representation Act.
End the Electoral College
In a Presidential election, a vote in Wyoming carries 3 times more weight due to the Electoral College than a vote in Pennsylvania. This is simply unfair. Additionally, so-called “winner take all” battleground states are where candidates focus their efforts, ignoring states that are considered safe. A national popular vote would force candidates to go to states normally ignored to fight for every vote. The Electoral College is an out-dated idea whose time has come. I support amending our Constitution to ensure every citizen has an equal vote when electing our President.
Ban Congressional Stock Trading
There are stock traders who base their portfolio on whatever certain members of Congress own – and they do very well because they know members of Congress have access to information we don’t. We cannot allow elected officials to enrich themselves by betraying the public trust. I support putting an end to all Congressional stock trading. Stocks and holdings must be put in a blind trust while serving in Congress.
